Taste of New England

Journal Entry, Day 6

Lakeside Serenity and Scenic Wonders

The morning began with a leisurely self-serve breakfast at the hotel, allowing us to ease into the day before setting off on another picturesque adventure. We departed North Conway, making our way toward the Lakes Region of New Hampshire, with our first stop being the charming town of Wolfeboro.

Dubbed the “Oldest Summer Resort in America,” Wolfeboro exuded classic New England charm, with its quaint streets lined with boutique shops, cafes, and stunning waterfront views of Lake Winnipesaukee. With some free time to explore, we browsed unique local shops, took in the crisp lake air, and captured postcard-worthy photos of the charming harbor.

By mid-morning, we made our way to Dockside Street to board the M/S Mount Washington, a legendary cruise ship that has been sailing Lake Winnipesaukee for over 150 years. Once aboard, we found ourselves immersed in breathtaking lake views as we glided across the water.

The buffet lunch in the Fantail Grille was a treat, but the real highlight was the freedom to explore the ship’s many decks. Some of us lounged in the Captains Lounge, while others wandered to the 3rd Aft Deck, enjoying the crisp autumn air and making new friends as we took in the scenery. Whether soaking up the sun on the open-air decks or relaxing in the cozy lounges filled with maritime history, this cruise was an unforgettable way to experience Lake Winnipesaukee.

By early afternoon, we arrived at Weirs Beach, where our motorcoach awaited to take us on the next leg of our journey—a visit to the historic Moulton Farm in Meredith, NH.

Established in the 1890s, Moulton Farm is a sustainably run working farm, renowned for its fresh local produce and community-focused practices. A wagon ride through the rolling fields gave us a firsthand look at the farm’s operations, and we indulged in a classic New England fall treat—a fresh-pressed cider pint and a warm Cider Bellies Donut, famous throughout the region.

After a relaxing afternoon at the farm, we embarked on one of the most scenic drives of the trip —the legendary Kancamagus Scenic Byway. Known for its jaw-dropping autumn foliage, this winding mountain road took us through the heart of the White Mountain National Forest, offering unparalleled views of Swift River, cascading waterfalls, and fiery red and gold treetops stretching as far as the eye could see. This was a quintessential New England fall experience, and we made sure to stop for plenty of photos along the way.

By early evening, we arrived back in North Conway to unwind, share laughs, and reminisce about the incredible experiences we had gathered throughout the day.

From tranquil lakeside moments to the golden hues of the mountains, Day Six was a perfect blend of relaxation, history, and breathtaking natural beauty.
